What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your phone that eliminates the need for physical SIM cards when traveling internationally. Instead of buying local SIM cards at each destination or paying expensive roaming fees, you simply scan a QR code to activate mobile data.

Key Benefits:

  • No roaming fees – Avoid surprise charges from your home carrier

  • Instant setup – Activate via QR code in minutes, no store visits required

  • Keep your number – Your primary SIM stays active for calls and texts

  • Multiple destinations – Single eSIM works across many countries

  • More secure – Can't be removed if your phone is lost or stolen

Why Maya Mobile?

How Maya Mobile Works

Step 1: Check Compatibility

Most newer iPhones (XS and later) and many Android devices support eSIM. Check Maya Mobile's compatibility list before purchasing.

Step 2: Purchase Your Plan

Select a data plan for your destination(s). Plans are available for individual countries, regions, or global coverage across 120+ countries.

Step 3: Receive QR Code

You'll receive your activation QR code via email within 5 minutes of purchase.

Step 4: Install Before You Travel

Scan the QR code in your phone's settings to install the eSIM. You can do this before departure, but don't activate it until you arrive.

Step 5: Activate on Arrival

When you land, switch your mobile data to the Maya Mobile eSIM line. Connect automatically to the best available network.

💡 P&R Travel Tip: Turn off data roaming on your primary line after installing your eSIM to avoid any roaming charges. Keep your primary line on for calls/texts, but set the Maya Mobile eSIM as your data line.

Why This Matters for Travelers

International roaming from major U.S. carriers can cost $10–$15 per day, adding hundreds to your trip cost. A Maya Mobile eSIM typically costs $5–$30 for a week of data, depending on your destination and data needs.

Real Example: A two-week trip to Europe with AT&T International Day Pass ($12/day) costs $168. A Maya Mobile regional eSIM with 10GB typically costs around $20–$30.

Data Usage Guidelines

Light Use (1–3GB): Messaging apps, maps, social media browsing, email

Moderate Use (5–10GB): Above plus regular photo uploads, video calls, streaming music

Heavy Use (15GB+): Frequent video streaming, large file uploads, hotspot for other devices

⚠️ [Important] Enable Low Data Mode: On iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular → select your eSIM line → turn on Low Data Mode. This prevents background apps from consuming data and helps your plan last longer.
